The two were so smashing together that their personalities took over not only much of the Odd Couple legacy, but of other series that briefly intersected with it. That’s just how divinely paired Tony Randall and Jack Klugman were as, respectively, anal retentive photographer Felix Unger (in many ways, the prototype for Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory) and slovenly sportswriter Oscar Madison. Yet the sitcom adaptation that debuted two years later has arguably left a larger cultural footprint than either the film or the many, many productions of the play. The 1968 film version of Neil Simon’s play about a mismatched pair of divorced middle-aged friends sharing an apartment was a beloved, Oscar-nominated, box office hit. Image Credit: Elizabeth Fisher/Paramount+ Yet in the midst of all the murder, torture, and psychological warfare, Oz was also a thoughtful, deeply experimental drama with a lot to say about the tension between punishing criminals and rehabilitating them, and what confinement does to good men and bad ones. The world of Oz was so vicious that even the relatively benign prisoners - audience surrogate Tobias Beecher (Lee Tergesen), Black nationalist Kareem Saïd (Eamonn Walker), or third generation inmate Miguel Alvarez (Kirk Acevedo) - would be tempted into heinous deeds over time. It’s a hell of a list.īefore The Wire, before The Sopranos, there was Oz, the canary in the coal mine for the idea of scripted dramas existing outside the broadcast network ecosystem. But voters couldn’t resist many standouts of the past few years, including a tragicomedy with a guinea-pig-themed café, an unpredictable comedy set in the world of hip-hop, and a racially charged adaptation of an unadaptable comic book. Many favorites returned, and the top show retained its crown. (See the full list of voters here.) Giving no restrictions on era or genre, we ended up with an eclectic list where the wholesome children’s television institution Sesame Street finished one spot ahead of foulmouthed Western Deadwood, while Eisenhower-era juggernaut I Love Lucy wound up sandwiched in between two shows, Lost and Arrested Development, that debuted during George W. Once again, we reached out to TV stars, creators, and critics - from multihyphenates like Natasha Lyonne, Ben Stiller, and Pamela Adlon to actors like Jon Hamm and Lizzy Caplan as well as the minds behind shows like The X-Files, Party Down, and Jane the Virgin - to sort through television’s vast and complicated history. So, we decided to update our list of television’s all-time best offerings, originally compiled in 2016. NFL footage © NFL Productions LLC.How do you identify the very best series in a medium that’s been commercially available since the end of World War II? Especially when that medium has experienced more radical change in the nine years between the finales of Breaking Bad and its prequel, Better Call Saul, than it did in the 60-odd years separating Walter White from Milton Berle? The current Peak TV era is delivering us 500-plus scripted shows per year, many of them breaking boundaries in terms of how stories are told and who’s doing the telling. Spend many hours finding a tank that would fit under the bed but not at the rear sticking out of the bed floor. Just much better ride on these! When i got the truck there were some issues which were addressed. What is great about the Monte Carlo is the suspension and disc brakes in the front. He even redid much of the floors with overkill on the metal. The welder has done several of these trucks and it has been done properly unlike many of the hacked together rides out there. It has been checked by my friend who is a long time fabricator/mechanic and he commented how well everything was done square etc. Nobody better that could have done the welding. What is even better on this build is the mounting of the cab and bed was done by a gentleman who owns/operates his own welding shop. The Monte Carlo frame is wider and fits much better for the 50's truck. But a few issues with these is the width presents some challenges for the rear. Many have not seen this type of build and I was used to these being put on an extended cab s10 from the 80's-90's. Turbo 400 transmission. The truck is mounted on a 1977 Monte Carlo frame. You have that here.Engine is Chevy 350 from a 1978 1 ton pickup. To me one truck with the same patina looks the best. Many trucks for sale are pieced together from various trucks.bed from one cab from another fenders from a third. This rod is cool. The 1950 Chevy pickup has awesome patina. Offering my 1950 Chevy 3100 rat rod pickup. I’d be tempted to just make this my weekend and work truck as-is and not make any serious mods, at least not immediately.Description of 1950 Chevrolet Other Pickups 3100 AD We don’t get to see the truck up on a lift, but there are a few pictures showing different parts of the underside, including this one, and from what we do get to view it appears to be reasonably solid down below. At one time, the heater leaked and there is said to be a fiberglass patch on the floor below it, but other than that, the rest of the floor area is stated to be like new. Not a whole lot is specifically addressed regarding the interior, but we do get some photos from inside and overall things are appearing decent in there. There’s also some corrosion near the front of the bed panel and the wood is showing some wear, but the latter is claimed to be the original piece and it would kind of make me sad to change it out! The seller believes the original color was red, and also thinks there’s been one or two resprays. The body isn’t perfect, but judging from the photos it actually looks pretty good overall, with some rust in the rear quarters and an eraser-size hole in the lower cab on the driver’s side. A few items have been replaced over the years, including the carburetor, fuel lines, and brakes noted as examples. The owner of this pickup says it’s running and driving the way it did 73 years ago, with 98 percent of the factory drivetrain, wiring, and components still remaining. The 3100 was considered a light-to-medium duty worker and featured a 216 cubic-inch inline 6 cylinder engine for most of its life, although for its final two years buyers got to choose from either a 235 or 261 CI displacement for 19, both also of the I6 design. Known as the Chevy Advance Design, these trucks first went on sale in 1947 and replaced the aging AK model. The truck is residing in Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, and can be seen here on eBay, where bidding has gotten to $8,100 already with the reserve not yet reached. Regardless of the next owner’s intentions, it’s either not bad just like it is, or a good candidate to take to the next level, so it’s a win-win situation no matter which direction things go. But the more I look, there’s just something really inspiring about a nearly 75-year-old vehicle that is said to still be operating with an estimated 98% of its original drivetrain, plus it takes awhile for a finish to establish a patina as cool and laid back as this one is wearing. Upon first seeing this 1950 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup, my first thought was I’m guessing there’s probably going to be some sort of a resto-mod in its future. Price: The most expensive single-device charger we researched was $70, but many sell for $35 or less and provide similar performance.Even if a charger is WPC-certified, you have no guarantee that it will never have a problem, and you should be able to get help if you need it. Maker reputation: We considered models only from companies that we knew had a good reputation for warranty coverage and customer support.(Also, as with wired charging, the wall adapter matters: Lower-power adapters produce slower charging speeds or, in some cases, don’t power the charger at all.) We made an exception for units that charge both a phone and an Apple Watch, since they exclusively use small, round “barrel jacks” that could come in a variety of sizes. Cords with proprietary connections are more difficult and expensive to replace.

The webbing can be adjusted from 20"-60". The mask can be retrieved easily by the individual carrying it. The GMP can be worn in a variety of positions along your waistline, depending on the preference/gear setup of the end user, and is easy to put on, take off, or adjust location as you see fit.Ĥ. This is important as often times, missions do not require the use of a gas mask (light is right), and also individuals may use their belt or vest for more than just tactical applications, ie patrol, etc.ģ. The pouch is not attached to your essential kit. The GMP was designed so that the wings of the pack/webbing strap are positioned to slide behind any belt pouches/magazines you wear, so that it doesn't not interfere with mag changes, handcuffs, etc.Ģ. Because of it's design, and where it sits along your waistline, it does not inhibit your movement in close quarters. This is a significant hindrance in relation to structure clearance, entering rooms, etc. The second carry option is a drop down leg attachment which sticks straight out from the side of your leg, making a very wide profile. Also, it requires a second person to retrieve your mask for you. This is extremely uncomfortable while sitting in a vehicle. The first being a molle pouch on the back of your plate carrier/vest. There are currently 2 main methods of carrying a gas mask because of what is available in the market. It will also fit the FM12, M50/FM50, it will fit all of these with or without the vpu attached. It was specifically designed around the most common mask on the LE market, the Avon C50. This does several things to benefit the end user. The GMP is individually hand made in the USA with high quality 500D Cordura nylon. The GMP (gas mask pouch) is a much needed alternative to the outdated gas mask carry methods that are currently available. However, the lessons learned from that, Moravy argued will help Tesla build its Gen 3 vehicles more efficiently, and do so within a far smaller factory footprint. “A sustainable energy economy is within reach and we should accelerate it,” Drew Baglino, Tesla's SVP of Powertrain and Energy Engineering, added.įollowing Musk's opening statement, Tesla executives Lars Moravy and Franz von Holzhausen took the stage to discuss the company's "production hell" and the challenges of building the Cybertruck out of stainless steel. No further details as to when or how that might be accomplished were shared. "As we improve the energy density of batteries, you’ll see all transportation go fully electric, with the exception of rockets,” he said. He also teased potential plans to electrify aircraft and ships. "All cars will go to fully electric and autonomous," Musk declared, arguing once again that ICE vehicles will soon be viewed in the same disdain as the horse and buggy. In all, he anticipates we'd need less than 0.2 percent of the world's land area to create the necessary solar and wind generation capacity. Musk notes, however, that figure is less than half of what we spend currently on internal combustion economy. Tesla recently began delivering its Model S Plaid in Europe during the week of the Christmas holiday. von Holzhausen described the Model S as a timeless car and pointed out that the team wanted to be “really specific about the improvements.” They didn’t want to take away from the vehicle’s already existing inherent beauty. He added that the team probably worked on the refresh for around a year or so. In response to another question by Ryan, he added that doing a refresh with both the interior and exterior took a “fair amount of time.” Regarding the 2021 Model S refresh, the chief designer said this was something he and the team knew they wanted to do and took the opportunity to improve manufacturability. Ryan asked if the chief designer worked on the Model S the previous day, and von Holzhausen said he’d worked on it the other day. “Even though we’ve just done a refresh, and it’s a big improvement on the car, we’re still looking at how do we continue to make it better,” he said. He added that this was before the refresh, and there was work leading up to that. In a recent interview with Ryan McCaffrey’s podcast, Ride The Lightning, von Holzhausen said that it felt like he was working on the Model S every day. Key examples of such improvements were the ones made to the 2022 Model S Plaid to include a new taillight design and revised charging door that is similar to the Model 3 and Model Y. In June 2022, Tesla celebrated the ten-year anniversary of the Model S, which has undergone many improvements, including the launch of the Tesla Model S Plaid in 2021. When Gustavo goes away for a few days to check out a new boyband called "The Windmills", Kelly convinces him to allow the boys to "mansion sit" for him, under the condition that they must follow his rules or else be fired. Gustavo realizes that the song should be more of a fast love song than a slow one. Kendall, Carlos, and Logan attempt to serenade Jo, only to get rejected. Meanwhile, Gustavo gets a new personal helper named Freight Train, Katie chooses to write her report on her biggest hero on Gustavo so she does not have to read anything, and Griffin decides he wants a slow love song for the next song, but Gustavo cannot seem to figure out how to make the song work. James, however, gets an allergic reaction to a body spray, so Kelly (Tanya Chisholm) attempts to make him get an allergy shot. The guys all try to pursue the new girl, Jo, causing the band to fight. Knight's rental car, trying to get a job in Hollywood. Knight gets persuaded that there's an axe maniac on the loose, and forces Katie to play with a girl named Molly, who is later revealed to be a 20-year-old con actress trying to pass herself off as an 11-year-old girl when she is seen driving in a high speed chase with cops, using Mrs. Ultimately, Gustavo and the guys secretly band together to get him booted out of the band, in a "bad boy-off", which Kendall wins. The record company CEO thinks adding a fifth band member will broaden Big Time Rush's appeal and sticks the guys with a self-proclaimed "bad boy" named "Wayne Wayne", who tries to inject dissension and tension within the group. The guys enlist the help of all their friends at The Palm Woods to move all the cool games and gadgets from the set to their apartment instead. The boys are not thrilled with their boring apartment at the Palm Woods and hatch a plan to improve it when Gustavo creates a fun "fake" living area for them on a soundstage for an upcoming EPK shoot. While the boys want to go to the fun Palm Woods school, they learn that Gustavo has arranged to have their school located at the recording studio, so they are never far from his grip. The boys get a dose of reality when Kelly tells them they have to go to school at least four hours every day while they live in Los Angeles. After an impromptu jam session, however, the boys realize they want to be a band and go back to Roqué Records, performing " Big Time Rush" to a pleased CEO who wants them to produce a demo CD in three months. The boys put in little effort to improve their terrible dancing, singing, and cooperating skills, causing them to get fired. Gustavo eventually gives in, but in L.A., he learns he has only three days to turn them into a successful boy band in order to win the approval of the CEO. due to his fiery personality, but Kendall only agrees if Gustavo brings all the guys and makes them a singing group. In the present day, Macy’s father is dead as well. After losing her mother at a young age, Macy is navigating her teenage years without a female role model, relying on the time-stamped notes her mother left in her father’s care for guidance. And as a teen, Macy has more to worry about than which girl Elliot is taking to the prom. But a chance encounter forces her to confront the truth: what happened to make Macy stop speaking to Elliot? Ultimately, they’re separated not by time or physical remoteness but by emotional distance-Elliot and Macy always kept their relationship casual because they went to different schools. In the second, Macy is working as a doctor and engaged to a single father, and she hasn’t spoken to Elliot since their breakup. In the first, Macy Sorensen meets and falls in love with the boy next door, Elliot Petropoulos, in the closet of her dad’s vacation home, where they hide out to discuss their favorite books. Toggling between past and present, two love stories unfold simultaneously. But he doesn’t know why she never forgave him. Packed with riveting drama and painful truths, this book powerfully illustrates the devastation of abuse-and the strength of the survivors.Įleven years ago, he broke her heart. The relationships are portrayed with compassion and honesty, and the author’s note at the end that explains Hoover’s personal connection to the subject matter is a must-read. Despite the better option right in front of her, an unexpected complication forces Lily to cut ties with Atlas, confront Ryle, and try to end the cycle of abuse before it’s too late. When Atlas turns up in Boston, now a successful chef, he begs Lily to leave Ryle. Diary entries fancifully addressed to TV host Ellen DeGeneres serve as flashbacks to Lily’s teenage years, when she met her first love, Atlas Corrigan, a homeless boy she found squatting in a neighbor’s house. Lily marries Ryle hoping the good will outweigh the bad, and the mother-daughter dynamics evolve beautifully as Lily reflects on her childhood with fresh eyes. When Ryle is not in the throes of a jealous rage, his redeeming qualities return, and Lily can justify his behavior: “I think we needed what happened on the stairwell to happen so that I would know his past and we’d be able to work on it together,” she tells herself. Lily swears she’ll never end up in another abusive home, but when Ryle starts to show all the same warning signs that her mother ignored, Lily learns just how hard it is to say goodbye. The provocative opening takes a dark turn when Lily receives a warning about Ryle’s intentions from his sister, who becomes Lily’s employee and close friend. They meet on a rooftop in Boston on the night Ryle loses a patient and Lily attends her abusive father’s funeral. Hoover’s ( November 9, 2015, etc.) latest tackles the difficult subject of domestic violence with romantic tenderness and emotional heft.Īt first glance, the couple is edgy but cute: Lily Bloom runs a flower shop for people who hate flowers Ryle Kincaid is a surgeon who says he never wants to get married or have kids. Nevertheless, the subtle comparison of the quick “love at first sight” romance versus the slow-building, deep-rooted love between characters is lovely and satisfying. Meanwhile, the more time Gwendolyn spends with her fiance, the more she realizes they won’t suit: “Perhaps that might sustain him for a lifetime-that kind of superficial adoration-but it wouldn’t me.” Berne’s latest Penhallow title is another sophisticated, elegantly written study on character and love, slightly undermined by a romantic misunderstanding with a secondary character that feels far-fetched given the otherwise exemplary intelligence and insight of the main couple. Christopher is composed and comfortable in his own skin. Gwendolyn is blissfully happy until Christopher comes back to town, and then she meets her future mother-in-law. He returns to London just as Gwendolyn is enjoying her first season and has accepted the hand of the Earl of Westenbury after they saw each other from across the room at Almack’s and fell in love at first sight. Instead, Gwendolyn’s older brother Hugo married an heiress ( The Bride Takes a Groom, 2018), and Christopher ran away to make his way in the world. Unfortunately, he wouldn’t come into the money until he was 21, so the plan wouldn’t work. Years ago, when she was 14 and her family was frightfully poor, Gwendolyn Penhallow asked her 17-year-old neighbor, Christopher Beck-who’d inherited a fortune from his uncle-to run away and marry her, saving her family financially and helping Christopher escape his complicated relationship with his father. After landing one of Regency London’s most eligible bachelors, a debutante begins to question her decision when a childhood friend returns to England after years of self-imposed exile. At that age, things can feel really problematic when you’re in it, but when you look back it wasn’t really so, it just seemed like it. I knew that I wanted a story that doesn’t revolve around very big problems. So in this film I knew that I had to take it to the extreme. Putting pieces together to find a form that really suits the story. I wanted to utilize all those elements-take the best that you can from documentary, and all other genres-to convey these emotions. I’m not really inventing the wheel-all these elements have been done in films before. In order to convey these kinds of emotions I knew that I’d have to utilize all of the cinematic language. How did you settle upon an aesthetic and form? How do you pursue those emotions, and couch them in a film? Because you have to determine in a more practical sense whom the film is going to be about, how you’re going to shoot it, what the narrative might be. I’m interested in feelings and emotions, and less about facts. You have to actively be in it, and everything that you’ve lived through is also part of the story. What really got me into doing documentary was the idea of making films that really bring you into the story, that make you feel like you’re there with the characters, that make you feel like you’re a partner and not just a viewer. There’s such an intimacy to the film, and it feels like there’s so little distance between whom we’re watching and who’s making it. But then you’re getting away from the reality of the emotions and feelings. It’s so easy to heighten emotions and add story points and beats to make the story more dramaturgically interesting. But from the start I felt that I could do this. But that is something that’s very difficult to make a movie about, and definitely to pitch. I really wanted to make a movie about that. There’s sureness and then unsureness-you know something and then everything turns upside down. When I look back at my youth it’s like a waterfall of feelings and emotions. The idea was to portray those feelings, emotions, energy, and doubts, all of that. I’m 32 and getting over that period, but I still remember it very vividly. About the craziness of youth and the emotions associated with it. What was the central motivating idea for you on this project? It has such a searching quality-what’s being sought? In the following interview, conducted during the opening weekend of the Festival amidst the buzz of surrounding revelers, Marczak talked about the work of cinema he intended to create, the intensity of emotion he hoped to express, and the unique and radical methods he employed to accomplish it. Whatever the film is, it’s intently and undeniably cinematic. And throughout, there’s music, there’s ecstatic experience, and there’s Marczak’s unstoppable camera navigating it all. They go to parties, they get drunk, they end and start relationships, they seem to know what they want and then seem without a clue, sometimes from one scene to the next. It follows two young men-the lithe, chiseled-cheeked Krzysztof, and matinee idol handsome Michal (not the filmmaker)-as they tour the nightlife and everyday trials of young adulthood in Warsaw. Too engaged, interactive, and borderline invasive to be an observational film, but also too spontaneous, in-the-moment reactive, and variously naked to be a work of fiction, All These Sleepless Nights stakes out its own cinematic terrain. Welcome to the world of All These Sleepless Nights, the latest film from Polish director Michal Marczak ( Fuck For Forest).īoldly programmed in the World Documentary Competition at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, the movie is unlike any other work of nonfiction you’ve seen. The camera is a participant, dancing with its subjects, trying to register each shade of their emotions. The music pounds, young people flirt and dance and mope and opine, and the camera swings all around them, doing more than just watch. The following interview was originally published during the film’s premiere at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. All These Sleepless Nights opens Friday, April 7, at the Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles before expanding throughout the country. |
